Leaders can use our Skills feature to identify the abilities required for success for each Seat on the Org Chart. They can also curate content in the Knowledge Portal to link to each Skill, helping team members build the capabilities they need to pursue future roles.

The Skills tab and the abillity to add, edit, and assign skills and competencies is available to all users with Manager, Admin, or Owner permissions.

Feature Overview

The Org Chart Skills feature provides:

  • Seat Specific Skills and Competencies: Assign specific skills or competencies to each Seat in the Org Chart.
  • Knowledge Portal Integration: Link each Skill to a topic, subtopic, or task in the Knowledge Portal.
  • Central Skills Manager: Owners, Admins, and Managers can manage a centralized list of Seat skills.

What Are Skills and Competencies?

Your Skills Manager will be unique to your company, industry, and niche. A skill is a specific, trainable capability that enables an individual to perform a task or activity with proficiency. A competency is an integrated combination of knowledge, mindset, and behaviors that enable someone to fulfill their Seat's responsibilities. These can include, but are not limited to:

  • Certifications or degrees
  • Traits
  • Programming language proficiencies
  • Business Operating System abilities (like “Process Documenter” or “Meeting Facilitator”)

For example, a construction company may want its CFO to earn the Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP®) credential —a nationally recognized certification for financial professionals in the construction industry. This company can make CCIFP® one of the Skills in its Skills Manager, with information, training, and resources linked to its Knowledge Portal for anyone interested in the organization to learn more.

Each Seat in the Org Chart also references roles and responsibilities. Here's a quick breakdown of the different terms you'll find in a Seat's details panel:

Org Chart Term Definition Example
Seat A function-specific position in an organization that carries roles, accountabilities, and responsibilities. Head of Finance
Role A subtitle of the Seat describing one of its specific functions. Payroll
Responsibilities The more-specific tasks associated with a given role. Ensure paychecks are on time and accurate.
Skill A specific, trainable capability that enables an individual to perform a task or activity with proficiency Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Competency An integrated combination of knowledge, mindset, and behaviors that enable someone to fulfill their Seat's responsibilities.
